"I will give you everything, Aurora," he promises, his voice thick with a dark, terrifying devotion. "I will burn the memories into your skin until you can't breathe without thinking of me. You want the cage? I’ll give you a kingdom built of shadows, and I will worship you inside it until you forget your own name."
He steers the car into a narrow, dirt path, the branches clawing at the metal like fingers. We are leaving the world behind. We are descending into the beautiful, twisted ruin of our love, as the cabin emerges from the timber like a phantom, a structure of dark, weathered wood and jagged angles that looks half-dreamed, half-forgotten. It stands in the center of the silence, a sanctuary of shadows with no light except for the twin beams of our headlights cutting through the mist.
